Since its beginning, the Cub Scout program has been a fun and educational experience concerned with values. Besides providing a positive place where boys can enjoy safe, wholesome activities, Cub Scouting focuses on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service.
St. Peter’s Pack 118
Like our Boys Scout Troop 118, Cub Scouting has a long history at St. Peter’s. Boys in 1st-5th grade may participate.
Outings include visits to the following:
The local police station and tours given by the on-duty policemen
The fire station and the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of a pumper truck
The local TV station and touring the set where the newscasters work
Building, decorating, and racing Pinewood Derby cars
Building a sailboat and racing it in the Raingutter Regatta
Building a spaceship and racing it in the Pack 118 Space Derby
Each time Cub Scouts complete an accomplishment or learn a new skill, they are rewarded with either a new belt loop, pin, or patch.
Our Cub Scouts are part of Pack 118, and within each grade level, the scouts are divided into smaller groups called Dens. Most of our boys attend St. Peter’s Catholic School, but we welcome all boys in the area who are interested in joining our Pack.
Pack 118 at Saint Peter’s is very active. Ranks participate in monthly meetings, outings, and adventures with their Den while the Pack has regular traditions such as the Pinewood, Space, Klondike Derbies, Cake Bake-off, and memorable fire-ring award ceremonies. Our Scouts always look forward to the fall family campout, as well their rank-specific summer camping experiences where they learn leather works, archery, BB guns, and much, much more!
Cub Scouts Pack 118 is chartered by St. Peter’s Friends of Scouting in Kansas City, Missouri, and are members of the Pioneer Trails District of the Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.
How much time is involved?
Scouts will be invited to join their Den and the Pack for approximately two events per month, lasting approximately one-hour each, usually in the evenings. Some rank advancement work should be done at home, with the family. Two of our Derbies are held on Sundays in the fall and spring and last approximately two hours. In addition, we have a fall campout and spring fishing day.
Where and when does Troop 118 meet?
Den meeting location and activity varies widely from group to group. The Pack typically in the school cafeteria, the third Thursday of the month, at 7 p.m. Check our website for specific dates and times.
How does my son get involved?

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
The Boy Scouts of America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
