“You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church.”
St. Peter’s Parish is a distinctly Catholic community of worship where God’s love is proclaimed daily through scripture, prayer, fellowship, and community outreach.
Our heritage dates back to 1925 when 78 parishioners celebrated the first Mass in a small corrugate iron building they called the “Tin Cathedral.” Three years later these founding stewards would construct St. Peter’s first permanent structure, our school.
From humble beginnings we evolved to a vibrant, faith-filled community serving neighbors in countless ways through more than 50 diverse ministries.
Centrally located between Holmes Road and Rockhill Road on Meyer Boulevard, St. Peter’s parishioners come from all over the Kansas City metro, from all backgrounds, and from every stage of life. Some are second and third generation members who received their sacraments and education here. Many are young singles, while others are recently married couples hoping to begin a legacy of their own at St. Peter’s.
We are no longer just one building but a campus composed of a magnificent church dedicated in 1946 and many modern expansions to the original school. Inside these walls God’s spirit is alive in the spirit of its people. We are grounded in tradition and our beliefs. Yet St. Peter’s Parish is a very special place where our doors and hearts are open to a world of possibilities.
On November 8, 2015, St. Peter’s Parish celebrated our 90th Anniversary. The slide show at the top of the page includes over 700 photos, some old and some more recent. We think it represents a glimpse into parish life here at St. Peter’s.
